March 2011

 River conditions:

Water temperature: 22 C.

Water levels - Lower Vaal: The water levels decreased from 1100 in the beginning of February to below 260 m^3/s at the end of February.

Visibility: Very poor. The visibility should take quite a while to improve. With the first serious cold weather expected in June we hope to see improvement in the visibility by the beginning of July-August.

Aquatic plants:  Hopefully the high water levels and poor visibility have cleared most if not all of the water grass.

Fishing conditions on the Lower Vaalriver:

We have suspended all our fishing activities in the lower Vaal until the visibility have improved .

Although we are not able to fish at the moment I'm fairly pleased with the high flows that was experienced. The river was desperately in need of a clean that will have a positive effect on the Largemouth fishing later in the year.

 Conservation

You can also play a role in the conservation of Yellowfish trough the participation in the Northern Cape Yellowfish Working group fish tagging program.
